Eastern Collared Lizard
Crotaphytus collaris

Size:  8 - 14 in
Distribution
Statewide, except extreme southeast Oklahoma. This large lizard is our state lizard, the mountain boomer. Common in rocky areas, the collared lizard prefers large boulders in which to dart away from danger. A formidable predator, it will eat nearly anything it can over-power. During breeding season, the males turn a bright green to blue-green with a bright orange throat, while the females are smaller and remain relatively drab.
